FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- General FAQs
Are they pseudo??
No, aids only contain the real material.
Do they contain a stabiliser?
No, our devices do not contain stabilisers. We have managed to make them effective and safe, using only the real molecule.
Are they effective?
Our devices only contain real materia, no stabilisers. Studies with real canine units show that are correctly detected 95% of the time and are discriminated from distractors 99% of the time.
Is it possible to determine the concentration of compounds in the air?
No, it is not possible to determine the exact concentration in the air, because concentration is defined as the amount of a compound per unit volume. In the case of air, this involves measuring how many micrograms or nanograms of a substance are actually dispersed in each litre or cubic metre. Furthermore, air is not a homogeneous medium: the substance is dispersed unevenly, forming areas with higher and lower accumulation depending on factors such as ventilation, temperature, humidity, air currents, or proximity to the source. This causes the concentration to vary constantly in space and time, so there is no single or stable value that can be measured accurately.
Can private security buy them?
Yes, private security can buy our training kits.
Is it suitable for training dogs from the beginning?
Yes, you can start dogs with our devices without any problem.
Are they reusable?
We do not recommend reusing them, as doing so can cause odors to become adsorbed/absorbed on the support and this would cause the dogs to not locate the real materia during the next training session.
How many dogs can use a kit?
It doesn't matter how many dogs go through a bait, as long as the hours of use are respected; but for each location during training, a new bait is required. A kit containing 6 aids is ideal for training twice a month in 3 different locations each time.
How to store a kit?
The kit can be stored in a cool, dry place under normal humidity and temperature conditions. If it is not available, it is recommended to store it in refrigeration.
Does the shipment have to be centralized?
We can send centrally to the central base of the canine unit, or directly to the subunits' offices when they request it, facilitating the logistics.
Can they be sent outside of Spain?
Yes, our devices can be sent outside of Spain.
Are discounts for large purchases?
Yes, there are discounts when buying several kits. The more kits purchased, the greater the discounts.
What size are the devices?
The size of the aids is small, 1.5 cm, so they can be easily hidden and force the dogs to not detect them by sight.
Do you have to manipulate the devices for them to work?
You don't need to manipulate the aidsfor them to work, you just have to open the packaging and place it in the place where you want to hide with the help of tweezers.
Why do you have to use tweezers? Are they dangerous?
The devices must be placed with tweezers to avoid direct contact with the hands, since the impregnation of the devices with human odor would cheat the training.
Why are kits sold?
The kit, unlike selling only the device, allows for more efficient training, being able to perform discrimination tests and including tweezers for correct handling.
- TATP Training Kits
Are they pseudo?
No, Hauts and Hodei-TATP baits contain the real TATP molecule.
Are they dangerous?
Our devices are declassified as explosives, so they are completely safe to use for both dogs and officers.
Can I use them without an explosives licence?
Yes, both Hauts and Hodei devices can be used without any type of license, as they are not classified as explosive items.
Do I need a special device to store them?
A special device is not necessary to store them as they are not considered explosive items. They can be stored in a cool, dry place under normal humidity and temperature conditions. If you do not have one, refrigeration is recommended.
How long do the devices last?
Unopened kits have a stability of one year. Once opened, Hauts baits can be used for 6 hours, while Hodei baits can be used for up to 1 hour on a hot day.
What is the difference in utility between Hauts and Hodei?
Hauts better simulates operational conditions where there are few grams of TATP, since the odor cone it generates is narrower, with a more directed aroma. Hodei, on the other hand, generates a wider odor cone, better simulating the conditions where dogs encounter a large amount of TATP (kilos).
What is included in the kits?
The kits include 6 devices to choose from Hauts and Hodei TATP, a quality certificate from them stating that they are only composed of TATP and its degradation by-products, 6 blank devices (only support without TATP) to ensure that dogs detect the TATP and not the support where they are deposited, and tweezers to avoid direct contact with the hands.
- Hilotz Training Kits
Why is it less than 24 hours?
This stage has a specific odour profile, distinct from both the smell of a living person and that of advanced decomposition. Characteristic compounds appear during this period, which disappear or change rapidly after 24 hours. Furthermore, this is a critical and currently neglected phase, in which it is essential to locate bodies quickly in order to preserve evidence, ensure rapid recovery of the bodies and show respect for the families.
Is it really the smell of a recent corpse?
Yes, thanks to our collaborative work with the Basque Institute of Legal Medicine, we have managed to ensure that our aids only smell like the real material.
Is it suitable for detecting corpses more than 24 hours after death?
In principle, no. The aid is specifically formulated to reproduce the characteristic odour profile of corpses less than 24 hours old. After that time, the body enters the initial stages of decomposition and the compounds emitted change significantly.
Does it contain cadaverine or putrescine?
No, these compounds are characteristic of more advanced stages of decay, so they are not specific to recent corpses.
Is it ethical?
Yes, it does not contain human remains per se, only the smell.
Is it suitable for detecting any body?
Yes, the aid is universal for recent corpses (<24 hours), as it has been developed based on the common profile observed in bodies within this time frame. Exceptions are corpses that have died by drowning, burning or other special circumstances, as the odour profile may differ significantly.
