Fentanyl: A silent threat that has already reached Europe
10 de September de 2025Last Friday, June 20, we held in Barakaldo the official launch event for Hilotz, the first real-scent aid specifically designed for the detection of cadavers in the early stages of decomposition (less than 24 hours). Hilotz was developed by Auziker, a company specialized in the development of training tools for detection dogs, in collaboration with the Basque Institute of Legal Medicine and canine units from various state bodies. The event brought together professionals from rescue dog units, law enforcement agencies, and the scientific community.
During the event, the technical and scientific journey that led to the creation of this unique product was presented. It is the result of interdisciplinary collaboration between experts in chemistry, forensic medicine, and operational canine units.
A round table was also held with representatives from various law enforcement bodies, who shared valuable experiences from their daily operations and offered key insights to contextualize the development and use of Hilotz in real-life scenarios. Notable professionals in the field participated, including:
- Josu, operational head of the Ertzaintza canine unit
- Sergio, officer in the canine unit of the Foral Police of Navarre
- Iván, trainer specialized in the search for living people, cadavers, and human remains with the Mossos d’Esquadra
- Susana, president of the Spanish School of Rescue and Detection with Dogs
- Daniel, representative of Scan K-9
- Francisco Salvador, chief inspector of the Spanish National Police
