DEX and C-IED dogs put the TATP Training Kit to the test in CANEX 02/25 exercises
3 de December de 2025Recently, we have heard about three major events coinciding on the calendar: Feria de Abril, Moto GP Jerez, and the final of the men’s Copa del Rey football tournament. For fans, this coincidence may pose the dilemma of choosing which event to attend, but the real challenge lies not there, but in how to organise security when so many crowds gather at the same time.
Large events, whether sporting, cultural or musical, are increasingly generating large gatherings of people in specific spaces. These gatherings can lead to unpredictable situations and, in order to ensure the well-being of all attendees, it is essential to implement a carefully studied and designed security plan.
However, when we think of a plan, the first thing that often comes to mind is security personnel, but how many of us would think of our four-legged agents as key players in the action plan?
That is precisely why it is important to emphasise that, within any well-structured system, prevention and anticipation measures play an essential role, and in this area K9 dogs play a fundamental role, not only in one discipline, but in several. On the one hand, security dogs provide a strong deterrent effect, helping to contain potential disturbances and reinforcing the authority of staff in sensitive areas. On the other hand, explosive detection dogs are essential in preliminary inspections of the premises, as they check access points and facilities to prevent the introduction of dangerous devices (such as flares or other more dangerous explosives), thus allowing potential threats to be anticipated. Finally, at events where the consumption or sale of illegal substances is known to occur, drug detection dogs carry out specific checks that make it difficult for these substances to enter and reduce situations that could compromise security.
For all these reasons, a solid security plan is essential before any major event. And within that plan, the presence of the officer-dog team is not only a support, but a key element that guarantees a safer, more orderly and effective event.
